Set Fashion Free Apprentice 2013

What is the Set Fashion Free Apprentice?

Set Fashion Free Apprentice sees 35 young people join together in teams to create a mini enterprise where they design, produce and present a fashion collection using cultural influences, whilst building practical know-how of what it would be like to run their own enterprise. The winning team has the opportunity to develop and market their collection for sale.

Over a 4 week period in the Summer holidays each team member takes a specific roles such as fashion designer, marketing manager, finance officer to design, produce and present a capsule collection inspired by African heritage and culture, whilst at the same time is contemporary and appealing to their peers. They are given a budget, guidance and support in design, marketing, and business through workshops by industry professionals and entrepreneurs and participate in cultural exploration via trips to the V&A and British Museum and exposed to speakers on cultural knowledge.

The teams present their final collection at a special fashion showcase edition of YEAh Live (Young Enterprise Association) where the winning team is selected by a judging panel and public vote to develop their collection for sale as ‘Young Directors’ at the Set Fashion Free brand with the support of the project team and business mentors.

The project focuses on young people aged between 14 and 21 years old in South London, however, our focus is not just on ‘underachievers’ as such but also young people who with the right guidance could go from doing OK to doing GREAT.
